Secondary Antibodies
For primary antibody that is unlabeled, a Secondary antibody is needed for further detection. Secondary antibodies offer increased sensitivity due to multiple binding to a single primary antibody. In addition, a given secondary antibody can be used with any primary antibody with the same isotype and target species. Moreover, the vast majority of primary antibodies are produced in just a few host animal species, making it economical to develop a relatively small number of ready-to-use secondary antibodies that suit many methods and detection systems.
